Papers of the American philosopher, educator, author. Correspondence (1937-1966); manuscript articles, books, lectures, and notes (1938-1963); correspondence, notes, and manuscript drafts and revisions relating to The Great Ideas: a syntopicon of Great books of the Western world; scrapbooks; and printed material, including articles and clippings about Adler and reviews of his books.

Adult Education Association.

The Adult Education Association of the U.S.A. (AEA-USA) was formed in 1951 by the merger of the American Association for Adult Education (supported by the Carnegie Foundation) and the Department of Adult Education of the National Education Association. In 1982, the AEA-USA combined with the National Association of Public School Adult Educators (NAPSAE) to become the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE). The collection contains material from both organizations.

Adult Student Personnel Association

Records include conference proceedings and programs, correspondence, directories, lists, newsletters, and other publications. Records from both the Adult Student Personnel Association and the Evening Student Personnel Association are included as well as material from organizations with whom ASPA had close ties, such as the Coalition of Adult Education Organizations and the United States Association of Evening Students. There are also portraits of important people in adult education such as Lyman Bryson, Alexander N. Charters, and A.A. Liveright.

Allbritten, Drew William

Drew Allbritten has been involved in education and government at the local, state, and national levels. In education, he served as a secondary and postsecondary teacher, counselor, and administrator. In government, he served in elected and appointed positions at the state and federal levels, respectively. Papers in the collection relate for the most part to his positions as Executive Director of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (1991-1998), Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Educators (1998-2002), and Executive Director of the Council for Exceptional Children (2003-2005).

Association of University Evening Colleges (U.S.)

The Association of University Evening Colleges (AUEC) was formerly (until 1939) the Association of Deans and Directors of University Evening Colleges; in 1973 it became the Association of Continuing Higher Education. AUEC's purpose was to study the problems of the evening college and to encourage mutual interchange and stimulation of ideas among members. The papers of the AUEC consist of minutes of committees, convention records; general correspondence; enrollment statistics; history, including six phono-tapes of oral interviews with staff members; newsletters, including press releases and copy; personnel records, including vitae and correspondence; regional meeting reports; and statistical reports of the AUEC. Major correspondents include members of the Executive Committee, editors of AUEC publications, and various education organizations.
